American Singles

American Singles has most of the bells and whistles offered by most dating sites. It differs from the others in that it really seems to take into consideration how the average person hesitates in paying for something they’re not sure will even work. This makes it a great option for those who are wavering on the idea of jumping into online dating.

Creating a profile on American Singles is pretty easy, and allows you to really specify some things about yourself. For example, most dating sites might have four or five options for eye color, while American Singles has thirteen – including turquoise. The “essay” sections are also good, with not only the usual “about you” and “you are looking for” but also “my idea of the perfect first date”, “my idea of the perfect relationship”, and “what I’ve learned from my past relationships”.

Once you’re done, you can start your search for the ever-elusive match. Searching is quite flexible, in that you can tag your search with “photos only” or “by location”, and then sort your results by “most active” or “closest to you”. Since the profiles are complex, you get a lot of information about each potential match. If there’s a complaint to be made about American Singles at all, its profiles are quite hard to read due to the amount of information and the way it’s squished together on the page. However, once you realize just how many options you have after you find a particular stud/hottie/sweetie/buffster, you’ll be in hog heaven.

First off, and this is the neatest thing about American Singles, you can indicate whether you think you’ll “click” or not by, uh, clicking the “yes”, “no”, or “maybe” buttons beside a given profile. If you click “maybe”, the system will ask you at some further date if you’ll reconsider. If you click “yes”, the system will check and see if that other person clicked “yes” on you, and if so, you’ll both find out. Being ridiculously shy myself, this kind of feature is pure gold. You don’t risk anything by clicking yes, and might find out that you’re doing better than you thought.

Secondly, you can “tease” that person. That doesn’t mean hitting them with an eraser like you would have in grade three. It means selecting from wide variety of short messages to send to that person. There’s several categories, ranging from “romantic” and “humorous”, to quotes from poetry and songs. This is a good feature that should be used by every dating site.

Thirdly, and fourthly, you can email and instant message. Problem is, that requires a paid membership. Rates are average at one month for $24.95 (and $24.95 each month after) or three months for $59.95 ($19.95 each month after). If you want to try American Singles, just try it for that one month rate and then join for three if it works out.

American Singles also keeps excellent tabs on not only everything you do on the site, but what other people have done to you. This doesn’t only apply to emails and teases and “clicks”, because it even tracks the profiles you look at. If someone checks you out, it says so on your page and you can check them out. Of course, you can turn this feature off if you’re shy about that kind of thing. But, in combination with the free “if we’d click” system, you could get quite a bit out of American Singles without paying a cent!

Not that I’m advocating not paying, of course, because American Singles is a dating site worth your money. With plenty of members, fun useful tools and the ability to meet single right in your hometown, this dating site is well worth trying.
