IwantU is actually split up into three dating clubs. Dating is the softest of the three, where you can find a pen pal or a long term relationship or even marriage. Adult is for those seeking a more physical experience right away. Alternative is physical too… but the kinds of physical that you won’t find on HBO.

Each dating club is set up pretty much the same, the main page having latest news, a horoscope tailed to you, this week’s highlighted profiles, a poll, and some hotlinks. There’s also a small area that shows how many emails/instant messages you have or how many people are online or chatting. From this main page you can search personal ads, see your account, look at the IwantU community at large, enter chat rooms, and so on.

You’ll have to set up a separate profile for each area. This sounds like a bit of a pain at first, until you really think about it. You want your "adult" profile to read little hotter than your dating profile. And if your alternative profile reads like a Hallmark card, you’re not looking at much action. Most of the details (age, sex, body type, and so on) will be the same, but your self-description as well as the description of your ideal match will obviously differ. As always, uploading your picture is a definite must.

On IwantU you also search by category. This allows searching by what exactly you’re looking for. If you want a pen pal, the dating area does the trick. Domination? Take a wild guess where to go (and say it loud). You can search by city or by distance from you, which is always a great feature. Searches bring up a list of matches, including pictures, but unless you’re a VIP member you won’t be able to actually see anything other than a small picture and their location, age, and desired partner.

This need for VIP membership on IwantU in order to see larger pictures certainly has to do with many of them in the adult and alternative sections being somewhat "naked". They don’t want every lookee-loo in there poking around. But you get a pretty good impression of what’s going on, anyhow.

Speaking of VIP memberships, IwantU offers two different membership, Standard  and VIP Select, both are essentially the same, except for a few minor perks. If you want, skip the monthly membership all together and just buy Tokens, and pay only for the features you want to use. You can also earn free tokens by referring a friend, updating your profile, and by posting a magazine article.

There are two major things in IwantU’s favor. One, you can get a $3.95 trial VIP membership that lasts for three days to test everything out and contact the best members of the bunch right away. Two, IwantU boasts nearly six million members, and that's a whole lot of people to choose from.
